Scotland’s delayed deposit return scheme for drinks bottles and cans will finally be introduced in August 2023. It will see shoppers in Lanarkshire and across the country being charged an additional 20p for every drink purchased in a single-use container made of PET plastic, steel, aluminium or glass, with the extra cost then being refunded when the empty container is recycled at specific supermarket and public collection points.
