The Bangles’ Susanna Hoffs to Adapt Her Novel ‘This Bird Has Flown’ Into Feature for Universal

Susanna Hoffs, the co-founder, lead singer and guitarist of The Bangles, will adapt her debut novel “This Bird Has Flown” into a feature romantic comedy for Universal Pictures.Released in April of this year, “This Bird Has Flown” tells the story of a one-hit wonder musician named Jane, who finds herself broke and single a decade after her breakout song.

En route to London, Jane meets a handsome stranger named Tom Hardy, and jumps at the opportunity for a second chance at stardom and love.Liza Chasin, along with Margaret Chernin of 3Dot Productions, and Bruna Papandrea, as well as Steve Hutensky and Sarah Harvey of Made Up Stories, will produce the film.

Senior Executive Vice President of Production Erik Baiers will oversee the project for Universal.“As a lifelong fiction, film, and music junkie, writing the novel was the realization of a dream,” Hoffs said in a statement. “As I was writing ‘This Bird Has Flown,’ songs provided the score; I visualized the action and unfolding dialogue as if I were watching a movie spring to life in my head.

Getting to adapt the book for the screen is the cherry on top of this joyous experience.”Papandrea and Chasin added: “We knew we had to team up again when we read Susanna’s incredible book.
