Teen boy charged with murder after death of pensioner in park

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of an 80-year-old grandfather who was attacked while walking his dog in a park.Bhim Kohli died on Monday following "a serious assault," in Leicester police said.

Five children were arrested, but four were later released with no further action. Now the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the remaining youth - a 14-year-old boy - has been charged with the pensioner's murder, The Mirror reports.A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the death of Bhim Kohli.

Mr Kohli, 80, died on Monday 2 September following an incident in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town."The boy, who cannot be named due to his age, will appear at Leicester Youth Court on Thursday morning.

Andrew Baxter, deputy chief crown prosecutor for the CPS, said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has reviewed a file of evidence from Leicestershire Police and has authorised a charge of murder against a 14-year-old boy in relation to the death of Bhim Sen Kohli."The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are now active and that the youth has a right to a fair trial."It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."Well-wishers, including Mr Kohli's widow Santinder, laid flowers at the scene of the attack today after police removed a cordon overnight - while Bhim's family released a statement, paying tribute to the popular retired factory owner.
