A speeding driver who killed a 70-year-old woman in a fatal car crash has dodged jail. Chloe Bell, 21, killed Anne Lythgoe and seriously injured her friend in the collision, reports Manchester Evening News.Bolton Crown Court heard that the incident occurred back in 2020, when the defendant, aged 19 at the time, drove at an estimated 46mph around a bend on a 40mph road.

She then lost control of her Mini One and smashed into two women on Slag Lane in Wigan. The ladies were walking in the same direction that Bell was travelling but along a path.

Anne was thrown forward up to 32metres following the crash on July 3, 2020. Meanwhile, her friend was thrown 16metres into an adjoining field.

Anne died just hours later, at around 11am, in hospital after succumbing to her injuries. Charlotte Crangle, prosecuting, told the court that "once the loss of control occurred it was impossible to rectify." Anne's friend is said to recall "very little" from the horror crash, waking up in hospital days later.
