Plans for South Lanarkshire’s first car-free housing development were approved by councillors at a meeting of the planning committee on Tuesday, August 26.
The proposals will see the former hotel turned 15 flats and a ground floor commercial unit while the façade and gable walls of the listed building will be retained.
Clydesdale area manager for planning and building standards Tony Finn told the committee that the Royal Oak was in a good location to consider a car-free development.
Situated in Lanark town centre, the new flats would be within walking distance of the train and bus stations, shops, schools and a public car park.
