smear tests cancelled are being urged to contact their GP as the service is set to restart from today. Health Secretary Jeane Freeman announced that cervical screening services will begin again on June 29 after they were temporarily suspended in March.
Smear tests were part of the health services paused as NHS Scotland tried to free up capacity to treat patients infected with Covid-19 while also helping to stop the spread.
But patients who had a smear test cancelled due to the pandemic will now be able to contact their GP to book a new appointment.Routine screening is expected to restart when the health service has managed to catch up with the backlog.Further appointment invitations and reminders are also due to be posted from mid-July.Ms.
