Council tax bills are expected to increase for some pensioners in September but experts have revealed how some households could see their bill slashed by 100%.
The Labour Party government has outlined who could be eligible for a reduction on its website, stating: "You could be eligible if you're on a low income or claim benefits.
Your bill could be reduced by up to 100 per cent." However, the government website does state that the amount you could get will depend on individual circumstances, including income, number of children, benefits and residency status.
Citizens Advice has echoed the government's advice, stating: "If you're on a low income you might be able to get your council tax reduced," adding: "If you get benefits or have other people living with you, this might affect how much your council tax is reduced by." The charity also clarified how the application process works: "Your local council will ask you details about your income and your circumstances, so they can work out if you're entitled to council tax reduction (CTR).
