Olympic hero Sir Chris Hoy, who is battling terminal cancer, has revealed the lengths he went to in order to keep his hair for his 10 year old son.The 48 year old sporting legend, who first shared news of his diagnosis earlier this year, has been told by doctors that he has 'two to four years' to live. The 11-time world champion and one of Britain's most decorated Olympians, with six gold medals and one silver from four different Games - Sydney, Athens, Beijing and London, has been fighting cancer for over a year, reports the Mirror.

In an interview with the Times, Hoy revealed that son Callum asked him: "Are you going to die?" Hoy told his young boy that no one lives for ever, although he hoped that, thanks to medicine, he'd be alive for 'for many, many years'.

Callum continually asked if Hoy would lose his hair, so for his sake and to ensure that his cancer treatment remained unknown to the public, Hoy chose to wear a cold cap, putting himself through agony. "It's like your head being in a vice," the 48-year-old explained.

Despite the agony, Hoy managed to save his hair, stating it was the worst pain he had ever endured, even though he has a "very high pain threshold." During one gruelling four-hour session in round two of chemo, Hoy had a 'violent' allergic reaction. "I was absolutely broken by the end of it," he admitted. "I feel like, 'What a wimp'." Married to his wife Sarra Kemp since 2010, the six-time Olympic champion faced yet another challenge; just a month after receiving his own dire health news, his wife was diagnosed with 'very active and aggressive' MS. “It was such a huge blow, when you're already reeling,” Hoy shared.
