A shock report into a council-run care unit for children and young people has uncovered “regular incidents” where kids and staff were subjected to violence. In a further revelation, Ayrshire Live can reveal how one member of staff even admitted that they can’t keep some children safe from harm.

The distressing details were uncovered at Canmore Care Home Service, in Kilwinning’s Redstone Avenue, following an unannounced inspection in February - with the findings now made public. An extract from the Care Inspectorate report said: “We had concerns about the safety of the young people and staff within the service.

It was clear that Canmore was not an appropriate care setting for all of the young people who lived there. The needs of some of the young people were too complex for the service to manage.

There have been regular incidents where staff and other young people have been subjected to violence and been unsafe.”Now the Care Inspectorate has ordered major improvements to be in place by the end of June.
