The makers of a new documentary about Shane McGowan have decided to add subtitles after complaints The Pogues singer was impossible to understand.
The film, titled Crock Of Gold: A Few Rounds With Shane MacGowan, was initially released to the press for review without subtitles.
But after reviewers said they found it incredibly difficult to make out what the singer was saying a decision was made to add subtitles prior to its official release.
Director Julien Temple acknowledged the “strange mixture of Irish and English” could be tricky to make out. He told the BBC it was not his choice to add subtitles, but conceded comprehending the singer’s speaking voice could be “an acquired listening skill” at times. ‘We certainly knew that in the
