Scotland will see multiple inches of snow as March ends with mammoth polar blast

Scotland is set to be hit with multiple inches of snow next weekend thanks to a blast of polar air. The latest weather maps from WXCharts show dark purple areas forming across Scotland which signals snowfall across a large part of the northern isles by Saturday, March 23.

Up to 6cm of snow every hour is expected near Fort William and some heavy rain mixed with snow closer to the central belt of Scotland by midday on March 23.This snowfall across the northern part of Scotland will continue throughout the evening and into March 24 - only beginning to stop by the end of Monday, March 25.

Temperatures will drop to below freezing by Sunday, March 24, reaching lows of -2.2C by the evening.A generally colder and drier outlook is being forecast for much of the rest of the month, reports the Mirror.The Met Office's long-range forecast for the UK from March 21 through to March 30 reads: "Dry for most places at first on Thursday, but rain will quickly spread from the northwest across all areas.

The heaviest and most persistent rain will be in the northwest, with relatively little rain reaching the southeast."Strong winds are also expected, particularly along coasts.
