Salford Lads' Club has had to cancel its summer camp for only the thid time in its history because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The trip was axed during the Second World War and during the general strike in 1926. Planning for the camp had been going on since January - and 25 members were signed up to go.

Veteran volunteer at the club Dennis Lewtas said: "It seems like the end of an era, but we will hopefully bounce back. "Cancelling the camp is the right decision because it is about the safety of the young people and our volunteers." In 1940, the camp was set up and ready before events in Europe led to the cancellation of trains the Friday before the club travelled.
