A much loved nature reserve is to mark its 50th anniversary with a special event this coming weekend. The RSPB Scotland acquired the wetland site just outside the Renfrewshire village of Lochwinnoch back in December 1973.

Now, the RSPB Lochwinnoch will be celebrating an incredible milestone of the nature reserve, with lots of fun activities for everyone to enjoy.

The open day will take place on Saturday, March 2 from 9.30am until 4pm. Kids can go wild in the natural play area, walk the fairy path or bang out a tune in the acoustic play area.Families can also take part in the Big Birthday Bash self-led activity.

Little ones need to keep their eyes peeled as they explore the trails, where they may spot some wild party-animals. This fun activity will be half-price at £1.75 per activity pack. There will be a tombola stall, with all proceeds going to the reserve, and you can also make your own apple bird feeder to take home or you could just stroll the woodland path, visit the boardwalk and enjoy the wildlife and fantastic scenery. There is a network of accessible paths which allow visitors to explore the Aird Meadow and Barr Lochs, along with hides and viewing platforms that offer breathtaking views over the wetlands.
