It's an iconic 1990s rom-com. But Richard Gere has joked he and Julia Roberts had "no chemistry" in Pretty Woman.The 75 year old heartthrob reminisced about his portrayal of suave tycoon Edward Lewis in the 1990 hit film, humorously commenting on how his role was "criminally underwritten".
During a masterclass at the Venice Film Festival, he quipped: "I was playing a character that was almost criminally underwritten." He continued with a chuckle: "It was basically a suit and a good haircut." Richard then playfully remarked about his on-screen partnership with Julia, who played prostitute Vivian Ward, saying he and 56 year old Julia's prostitute character Vivian Ward "had no chemistry".
Reflecting on their dynamic, he joked, "This actor and this actress obviously had no chemistry between them... I haven't seen that in a long time.That's a sexy scene." The Hollywood legend also shared behind-the-scenes details about one of Pretty Woman's most memorable moments - the seductive piano scene.
Unscripted and born from improvisation, Richard recalled the organic creation of the scene: "We didn't know how we would use it later.
