Residents evacuated after car smashes into house with driver arrested

Residents were evacuated from their homes after a car smashed into a house in Wigan. Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash on Ormskirk Road in the Pemberton area at around 11.30am this morning (Monday).

A gas pipe was left damaged after the car ploughed into the house, police said. No injuries were reported but some homes were evacuated 'as a precaution'.

A stretch of the road was closed off by police officers. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 11:30am this morning (Monday 8 May) Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a vehicle and a house on Ormskirk Road, Wigan.
