A pensioner has died in hospital after being hit by a truck near a Scots shopping centre on Tuesday.Emergency crews rushed to Glasgow Road, near Clydeview Shopping Centre in Blantyre, after a 84-year-old man was struck by a white Isuzu Grafter Flatbed around 5.55pm.The man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment, but he sadly could not be saved and died on Wednesday, December 20.The 53-year-old male driver of the truck was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiries.The road was closed for around five hours to allow investigations to take place and reopened around 11.05pm.Police are now urging anyone who witnessed the crash to get in touch. Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.“Our enquiries into this collision are ongoing, and I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the crash to please contact us."I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist us to get in touch."Anyone with any information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference number 2896 of 19 December.
