Plans to move Mossley station to a different location by the end of the decade have been tabled by rail bosses. Under the proposal put forward by Network Rail, the station on Manchester Road would be moved 300m down the road so it can be made more accessible for passengers.
Plans include an accessible footbridge with lifts; extended platforms to support longer trains allowing more seats for passengers; and full electrification of the route through the town for cleaner, faster journeys.
The transformation is outlined as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) - a multi-billion-pound project between Manchester and York, ‘bringing cleaner, greener and better travel along the route’. Try MEN Premium now for FREE...
