At the time she said: "I communicated that I wanted to skip press conferences at Roland Garros to exercise self-care and preservation of my mental health.
I stand by that. Athletes are humans. Perhaps we should give athletes the right to take a mental break from media scrutiny on a rare occasion without being subject to strict sanctions. "In addition to the article, Osaka revealed on her social media pages that she had been suffering from "long bouts of depression", since 2018.
