After just one season, Peacock canceled its Queer as Folk reboot.The show followed a group of queer friends moving forward after a shooting at a queer bar in New Orleans. It premiered on June 9 and ran for eight episodes.Stephen Dunn, who created the new show, announced the cancellation on Instagram Friday.“It’s a rare gift in these times, and in this country, to be able to make a show as fearless and unapologetic as Queer As Folk,” Dunn wrote.

Physical creator Annie Weisman is joining the upcoming second season of the dark comedy thriller, from Aggregate Films and UCP, as new showrunner. She succeeds series creator Craig Rosenberg who remains an executive producer while pursuing other projects.

The Queer As Folk reboot will be short-lived. Peacock has opted not to pick up a second season of the series created by Russell T. Davies and Stephen Dunn.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter The “Queer as Folk” reboot has been canceled after one season at Peacock, Variety has learned. The entire first season of the show was released on the streamer on June 9. It originally received a straight-to-series order at Peacock in April 2021. The show followed a group of friends in New Orleans who must deal with the aftermath of a shooting at a queer nightclub. The cast included Fin Argus, CG, Jesse James Keitel, Ryan O’Connell, Johnny Sibilly, Devin Way, and Kim Cattrall, among others. Stephen Dunn created the series and served as an executive producer along with Jaclyn Moore, Lee Eisenberg, Emily Brecht, original series creator Russell T. Davies, Nicola Shindler, and Richard Halliwell on behalf of NENT Studios UK, which distributes the format. UCP is the studio.

Beloved by the queer community,  Kim Cattrall has joined the inclusive cast of Peacock’s Queer as Folk reboot, playing a “martini-soaked, high-society Southern debutante “who has roots in a poverty-stricken trailer park. The Sex and the City actress plays the adoptive mother of queer characters Brodie (Devin Way) and Julian (Ryan O’Connell) in Queer as Folk. The character was written specifically with Cattrall in mind. Canadian writer and director Stephen Dunn said that he wanted Cattrall to play Brenda before he knew what And Just Like That… (sequel to Sex and the City) was, praising her for her acting skills and immediate engagement in taking this role on. One of Cattrall’s on-screen sons, O’Connell added that viewers should get ready because the “last four episodes of the show are insane” where her storyline takes a “really fun turn.” Cattrall took part in her first non-binary love scene in the Queer as Folk reboot and used an intimacy coach to help during the filming of these scenes. Dunn applauded her ability to be open throughout the dialogue on LGBT+ issues and relationships, stating that she was “so dialled into the character’s learning curve around queerness”. “She’s been such an ally, she really understands the queer community in this way, and she understood how her character strangely fit into this queer family.

Jaclyn Moore, a writer and co-showrunner on Netflix’s "Dear White People," says she's parting ways with the streaming service over alleged transphobic jokes Dave Chappelle made in his latest comedy special.  Moore, who identifies as a transwoman, took to Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday night to explain her stance.  "After the Chappelle special, I can’t do this anymore. I won’t work for @netflix again as long as they keep promoting and profiting from dangerous transphobic content," she wrote on Instagram.

It wouldn’t be a new Dave Chappelle comedy special if there wasn’t a certain amount of controversy.
