Firefighters were called to the M61 at Bolton at about 3.30am on Friday. Pictures from the scene show the van engulfed in flames on the hard shoulder.

The M61 southbound between junction six Bolton North and junction eight Chorley was closed for more than two hours to allow the carriageway to be resurfaced.
