Most expensive seaside spots to buy a home in UK shows stark Northern-Southern split

The latest property price data reveals a stark contrast between some of Scotland's picturesque but cheaper coastal properties and southern England's continuing housing crisis - with some people paying more than £1 million just to say they live in the right town.Glamorous Sandbanks in Dorset topped the list as Britain's most expensive seaside town, with average property prices reaching nearly £1.6 million, based on Rightmove's survey of over 200 coastal locations in the UK.

For the same cost, house hunters could snap up almost 14 homes in Saltcoats.With average asking prices at a modest £114,365, Saltcoats has been pinpointed as the most affordable seaside area in the research.

While some spots in northern England are close behind, with Easington in County Durham ranked just above Saltcoats with an average property value of £122,520, followed closely by Peterlee in the same region, at £124,593. Heysham in Lancashire is another location where property values are on the rise, with the area seeing a 7 per cent increase over the past year.Tim Bannister, Rightmove's property expert said: "Whilst the pandemic-driven surge for seaside areas has calmed down and reversed back to more normal levels, areas around Great Britain's coast continue to be popular with many people.""Particularly at this time of year, many people consider what a home by the sea and away from the hustle and bustle of a city could look like, or perhaps explore estate agents' windows
