Max is honoring late “Friends” star Matthew Perry with a remembrance card, which is featured before each season premiere on the streaming network. The card reads: “IN MEMORY OF MATTHEW PERRY 1969-2023.” It flashes on screen for roughly five seconds before the start of the “Friends” opening sequence, according to Variety.“Friends,” which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004, left Netflix in 2020 and made the move to Max (formerly HBO Max) that year.Perry died of an apparent drowning in his hot tub at his California home on Saturday.
He was 54. The actor’s body was removed from his home that night and an autopsy has been completed. However, the coroner has ordered more tests, including toxicology.
His cause of death is currently “deferred.”No foul play was suspected. Prescription drugs were found in his home, according to a report, but no illicit drugs.
Perry battled much-publicized addictions for years. One day after his passing, his family broke their silence on the tragedy. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” Perry’s family said in a statement to People on Sunday. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.”They added: “You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”Warner Bros.
