A Manchester City fan daubed his neighbours' garden fence with a vile Munich air disaster jibe after learning they supported Manchester United, a court heard.

Michael Hatton became involved in a bitter feud with his neighbours in the Hollins area of Oldham. The 63-year-old had fallen out with the victims - a man and his girlfriend - over a wooden fence he had put up between their front gardens, a court was told.

As tensions escalated, Hatton painted '58' - in reference to the 1958 Munich air crash which killed eight Busby Babes - onto the fence.

He also daubed the words 'City rule OK, 'United are s***' and 'f*** off' with paint.
