A man has died after falling ill at the wheel near the M74. Police were called to a single vehicle crash on the A725 at the Raith Interchange near Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire on Wednesday morning.The 51-year-old driver was taken to Hairmyres Hospital.

It is understood he took unwell at the wheel. He later died in hospital.His next of kin has been notified. The southbound road and the M74 slip onto the interchange were closed as a result of the smash, and drivers were urged to take care and expect delays.Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a crash involving a single vehicle after a driver apparently took unwell at the Raith Interchange around 7.50am on Wednesday, 7 December."The 51-year-old man was taken to Hairmyres Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.“His next of kin has been made aware and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.” Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter here.
