Loaves & Fishes food bank boss blasts panic buyers as charity is forced to close

A lifeline East Kilbride food bank has been forced to close amid the current COVID-19 crisis. Loaves & Fishes announced today it was taking the “difficult” measure to protect the health and safety of its service users and volunteers, and to protect the East Kilbride community from further spread of the virus.

The East Kilbride News had spoken to chairman Denis Curran ahead of the announcement who described the pandemic as a “nightmare” and revealed the charity was running desperately short on supplies with just two small donations in the last two weeks.

Denis went on to blast panic buyers for ‘stealing’ food from the hungry.“It’s a nightmare”, he said. “I normally spend £2000 a month on supplies for Loaves & Fishes in one store – £14,000
