Livingston boss David Martindale has hailed the impact of veteran defender Michael Nottingham after he made his first start for the club. The 34-year-old suffered Achilles tendonitis after just two substitute appearances that ruled him out for two months after making the summer move from Accrington Stanley. Then the former Saint Kitts and Nevis internationalist was stretchered off in the final moments of their away loss to Dundee earlier this month after sustaining a neck injury. He was named in the starting line-up for the first time in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat away to St Mirren and while Martindale revealed he’s still suffering from a ‘minor’ injury that requires treatment, he’s hopeful the defender can play a vital role in the club’s bid for top flight survival. He said: “I thought he played really well and made a big difference to the side.

He’s a big asset for us in both boxes and I felt better him being out on the park. I was really pleased for him and with his performance.”He added: “He’s still got a minor injury we need to support him through and manage but he can be a big player for us when he’s playing.”Martindale also revealed Dan MacKay has returned to parent club Hibs and isn’t expected to return to fitness this side of the winter break but there is positive news on defender Ayo Obileye. The ex-Queen of the South man has been out for the last six games but is expected to be available for selection for Saturday’s clash against Ross County.

Colombian full-back Cristian Montano, however, remains sidelined.Martindale said: “Ayo will be available for selection for Saturday but it might be a wee bit too soon for him to start.
