Kelly Ripa says the reason she did not have a great relationship with the late Regis Philbin could have been due to their age gap. Former North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley, the state's Democratic candidate for Senate, received an endorsement from a major racial justice group that supports defunding and disbanding the police. The political action committee (PAC) for Color of Change, which former Obama White House adviser Van Jones co-founded in 2005, announced in August that it would support Beasley's bid for Senate in large part because of her platform of "reforming the criminal justice system." Color of Change regularly posts on social media in support of anti-police policies and the Black Lives Matter movement. "Police brutality shows us that more cops in Black neighborhoods doesn't keep us safe, it harms Black people," the group tweeted in 2020.

An Indiana teacher was arrested on Thursday after allegedly telling a fifth-grader that she made a "kill list" targeting students and staff members, police said. St. Stanislaus School teacher, Angelica Carrasquillo-Torres, reportedly mentioned the plans to a fifth-grade student around noon on Wednesday.

An appeals court temporarily allowed New York to continue enforcing the recently enacted Concealed Carry Improvement Act while an appeal from the state's attorney general makes its way through the courts.  New York's legislature passed the bill earlier this year after the Supreme Court struck down New York's old laws for permits to carry handguns in public, which required that individuals show an unusual threat to their safety for a license.  A federal judge ruled last week that some provisions of the new law are unconstitutional, specifically one that required applicants to turn over their social media information and a ban on carrying guns in certain public places, such as transportation systems and businesses that serve alcohol.  A sign zip-tied to a utility pole at the intersection of East 47th St and Avenue of The Americas declares Times Square is a gun free zone, Tuesday Sept. 6, 2022.

Escambia County Public Schools, Florida considered a proposal to revise a policy to allow parents to decide what books their children can read. At the beginning of Escambia County schools' "special workshop" on Monday, school board members addressed concerns over books that have been accessible to students.The workshop stemmed from a teacher's claim last month that over 100 books in Escambia County Public Schools violated Florida law.  "I think at some point we have to know that we have professionals working for us that are evaluating, making decisions, based on the literature that is being proposed.

Liz Mathis, a Democrat who is seeking to represent the Iowa's 2nd Congressional District, said this week that defining a woman is a "tough question" and suggested that the only way to change controversial policies in a particular school district in the state is to vote for different board members. The remarks from Mathis came Monday during a meet and greet at the Waterloo, Iowa, Rotary Club, where she took questions from those in attendance on a number of subjects, including gender and education.

An Oregon sheriff said the state's recently implemented bail reform policies are making her community less safe and contradict what rural residents want. "If Portland or other communities want to be okay with letting some of these people facing very serious crimes out, then that should be their choice as a community," Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan told Fox News.

Republicans in Congress are sending a letter to the FBI Wednesday demanding transparency and data on the bureau's enforcement of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. College students organized a protest in response to their university’s nomination of a sole finalist for president of the school.The University of Florida announced on October 6 that Senator Ben Sasse, R-Neb, was unanimously nominated to be the only contender to serve as the 13th president of the public institution.Sasse, who has served the state of Nebraska since 2015, is expected to resign his Senate seat in December and start his new job at the university in February, should the nomination go through.  He was on campus on October 10 for multiple public forums with students, faculty, and staff. Sasse spoke at Emerson Alumni Hall at 2:30 PM during a Q&A session for students.

New York police reportedly launched a strike force after the shooting outside of Rep. Lee Zeldin’s home.  Speaking to reporters near the home of the Republican candidate for governor, Suffolk Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison said he is putting the strike force together for the Shirley area.  "I’m always concerned about retaliation, so putting this strike force together and grabbing officers throughout the county and kind of flooding them in a certain community is our M.O.," Harrison on Monday, according to Newsday.

After the Empire State's crime wave got right up to his Shirley, N.Y. home, Republican gubernatorial nominee Lee Zeldin doubled down on his plan to quash the criminality running rampant in New York. After an Obama-appointed federal judge upheld a new Georgia election law against a challenge from Stacey Abrams, a top civil rights attorney told Fox News the Peach State's Democratic gubernatorial nominee continues to use an outdated political "playbook" to claim injustice. In an interview with Shannon Bream on "Fox News Sunday," Abrams said voter suppression purportedly still exists in municipalities where it people may have "difficulty registering" or where voter rolls may be subject to dormancy purges. New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin shut down a reporter Sunday who questioned why he chose to "talk politics" after a shooting occurred directly outside his home.  "At what point are we supposed to talk about the crime on our own streets? I’m standing in front of crime scene tape in front of my own house," he said.  Rep. Zeldin, R-N.Y., read a prepared statement and then took questions on Sunday following a shooting that left two 17-year-olds wounded with non-life threatening injuries. He explained that his two 16-year-old daughters were inside the Long Island home when the shooting happened, with a bullet landing only 30 feet from one of them.

The two teens shot outside Rep. Lee Zeldin’s home while the Republican candidate for governor of New York's twin daughters were home alone have been identified, according to a report.  The New York Post first identified the teen victims Monday as Joel Murphy and Elijah Robinson, both 17-year-olds from Mastic, on New York’s Long Island.The Suffolk County Police Department declined to confirm the identities of the victims to Fox News Digital when contacted by phone about the report.  Both teen victims suffered gunshot wounds to the chest in the shooting in Shirley, the Post said, citing police, noting that Murphy also reportedly suffered a lacerated liver while Robinson sustained an arm wound.  According to the report, a "high-ranking" law enforcement source said the teen victims were "known to the department" and had been at a recording studio on a reservation in Suffolk County that is known for gang activity.  New York GOP candidate for governor Rep.
