Lana Del Rey was asked by the BBC if she’d write a title track for a James Bond movie. As it turns out, she did. And was rejected.

Speaking while attending the Ivor Novello Awards in London on Thursday, the singer admitted the failure. “I mean, how has that not happened yet?” Del Rey asked, then briefly sang the chorus to 24 from her 2015 album, Honeymoon. “I wrote that for them.” Th song would have been part of Daniel Craig’s fourth Bond film, Spectre.

But it was Sam Smith’s song, Writing’s On the Wall, that was selected for the film, and later won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2016.

Del Rey took a poke at Smith. “But Sam, you did a wonderful job, really,” she teased. “No, I’m just kidding!” Del Rey admits she may not make a future Bond cut. “But I’m going to continue to do my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then and just pretend it’s the title track.” By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
