A temporary water treatment plant has been given the green light for Kippford. The facility will be in place for the next three years while Scottish Water works on plans for a multi-million permanent facility elsewhere in the village.A new plant is needed as the existing infrastructure can no longer cope with the influx of summer visitors to the picturesque seaside village.A temporary plant was used for the first time last summer and led to a “substantial” improvement on bathing water quality around the coast at Rockcliffe, to the degree that the water received an “excellent” rating from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency. The council has given the thumbs up for the temporary plant to be in place in the summers of 2022, 2023 and 2024, by which point it is hoped the new plant will be up and running.Scottish Water has lodged documents with the council relating to the new plant which will be on the outskirts of Kippford on agricultural land beside the road linking the village with the A711.
