Interactive game with prizes up for grabs set to hit the streets of Paisley next week

A Paisley-wide physical activity game that will see participants pound the pavements for the chance to win prizes is set to begin next week.Beat the Street aims to get whole communities moving together by making exercise into a fun competition where competitors of all ages can win points and prizes for taking part.The competition has already made a foothold in Renfrewshire, with thousands of residents of Bridge of Weir, Elderslie, Houston, Howwood, Kilbarchan, Linwood, Johnstone, and Lochwinnoch getting out and about competing in their towns and villages last year.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.This year will be the first time the competition is being held in Paisley.The competition, the brainchild of Dr William Bird MBE, who created it to help tackle the UK’s low levels of activity, to help people incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives, as well also improving air pollution, increasing active travel and reducing congestion, runs between Wednesday, August 31 until Wednesday, October 12.Players can join a school team, a workplace team, charity team or community and the further that participants walk, cycle or wheel, the more points they will win for their team.The teams that top the leaderboard will be in with a chance of winning vouchers for books and sports equipment at the end of the six-week game, with prizes for average points too, so smaller teams are also in with a chance of winning prizes.Councillor Michelle Campbell, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: “We want to encourage healthy, more active lives in Renfrewshire so this game is an ideal way to inspire people to leave the car at home and
