Paisley’s streets were awash with campaigners calling for an end to violence against women and gender-based violence at the town’s annual Reclaim the Night march.
Hundreds turned out on a bitterly cold Tuesday night to make their voices heard. They marched through the town centre carrying placards and banners with various slogans on them.The route began at the University of the West of Scotland’s High Street entrance and continued down the High Street to Dunn Square where a memorial service was held.Renfrewshire Provost Lorraine Cameron made a short speech to those gathered in the square.
She called for all those who lost their lives to violence to be remembered and laid a wreath made by the Paisley Soroptimists.
The event was part of the United Nations’ international 16 Days of Action for the Elimination of Violence against Women campaign that has been marked in Renfrewshire for the last 17 years.Afterwards, people went to the Wynd Centre to warm their bones with hot drinks and conversation.
