How to challenge your PIP benefit decision and get another chance - as half are rejected

Going through the Department for Work and Pensions' (DWP) assessment process for the main disability benefit, the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) can be a lengthy and stressful process of finding the right forms and evidence, before waiting weeks to find out if you qualify for help with your disability or health condition - worth up to £108.55 per week.

But, if you are one of the 52 per cent of claimants frustrated by a PIP rejection, there are ways to get another chance. DWP ministers recently revealed that the waiting time for people to hear back after challenging a PIP decision is down to 39 days, which can be a long time to wait for those struggling to make ends meet due to a disability or long-term sickness.

This reduction in waiting times was explained as due to improvements in "processes and increasing decision-making capacity".

Minister for Disabled People Mims Davies, speaking in the Commons, responded to a question from a Labour MP asking what steps the DWP was taking to reduce decision-making time.
