A 50-year-old, 200m-long motorway bridge will be lifted just 5mm so engineers can repair the concrete columns it rests on without causing disruption to motorists.
The revitalisation on the M60 bridge over the River Mersey and Palatine Road near Didsbury will happen in phases. On Thursday (March 12), the anticlockwise carriageway will be closed between 10pm and 6am between junction 5 (Didsbury) and junction 3 (Cheadle).
Diversions will be in place to take drivers along the A5103 Princess Parkway, A560 and M56. Highways England says lifting the bridge by just 0.5cm - roughly the thickness of an iPhone - will allow repairs to take place.
