Historic Stockport mill to undergo £60m transformation - 250 new flats will be built in the town centre

An historic cotton mill is to undergo a £60m transformation that will bring hundreds of homes to Stockport town centre. Plans for Weir Mill, which stands in the shadow of the town’s iconic viaduct, also include new cafe-bars, delis, independent shops and commercial space.

The ambitious scheme would feature around 250 apartments next to the River Mersey, opening the waterside to the public. The proposals for the Chestergate site have been revealed by leading developer Capital & Centric, following its recent purchase of the complex.

Dating back to the late 1700s and featuring a number of Grade II listed buildings, Weir Mill is set to play a key early role in the much-vaunted regeneration of Town Centre West - also known as the Mayoral
