A heartbroken mum whose only son brutally stabbed her "defenceless" husband to death as he lay in bed with Covid has pleaded with a judge to "return my son to me." She also described Mr McDiarmid, a former detective inspector who served Merseyside Police for 30 years, as a "wonderful husband and stepfather who was loved and cherished" with whom she had "lived happily for 17 years."
