The end of the week will be wet and slightly cooler in Greater Manchester, just days after temperatures exceeded 40C for the first time in the UK.

The Met Office registered a provisional reading of 40.3C at Coningsby in eastern England on Tuesday. Greater Manchester hit highs of 37.2C while in Rostherne - between Knutsford and Altrincham - the mercury hit 37.7C.

But today (Friday July 22) our region's temperatures will peak at a fresh 17C. Heavy showers will dominate the first half of the day, with conditions becoming overcast this afternoon.

The rain will continue intermittently throughout the late hours of Friday night. Read more:Husband who cut his terminally ill wife's throat in desperate suicide pact says he 'killed her with love'...
