Greater Manchester weather forecast as sun out and temperatures rise after downpours

Whisper it, but sunny skies have returned to Greater Manchester, with a largely dry week forecast by the Met Office across the city region.

Official figures from The Met Office showed that Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside all had their wettest July on record last month - with more than twice the usual amount of rainfall. Amid heavy downpours and dramatic thunderstorms, the region battled a number of flood alerts, with streets flooded, cars left submerged and even a sinkhole opening up in the middle of the road.

But the sun is out once again - and is forecast to remain for large parts of the week. Temperatures, according to the Met Office, are expected to rise to as high as 22C on Wednesday, with 'very warm sunshine' forecast for Thursday, as the summer finally makes an appearance.

The Met Office said of Tuesday in the region: "Southern areas will see a fair amount of cloud during the morning, perhaps giving a few showers.
