Glasgow International customers ripped off with ‘kiss and drop’ charges says the RAC

Airports are ripping off customers when it comes to charging for drop off/pick up, according to the RAC.The automotive services firm say that charges have been jacked up since the pandemic hit airport coffers in an attempt to try and recoup lost earnings as a result of fewer people travelling because of lockdown restrictions.The RAC have been tracking the prices of airport pick up/drop off since 2016 and their figures show that since 2019 there has been a 100 per cent increase in fees at Glasgow Airport.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.Friends and family of travellers have had to fork out £4 to drop off and say goodbye at the airport since December 4, 2020, up from £2 in 2019.The RAC have published their list of the increases at the UK’s busiest airports online.

The company says that airport bosses have done this to make up for losses in the previous year.RAC head of roads policy Nicholas Lyes said: “Anyone dropping a loved one off at the terminal this summer will be stunned by some of these sky-high ‘kiss and drop’ charges… Minute for minute and pound for pound, some of these charges could almost be as high as the airfare itself.“While airports have had a turbulent couple of years with the pandemic, it very much looks like they have put up drop-off fees to partially make up for two years of lost revenue.”It’s not something that AGS Airports Ltd, which owns Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports have tried to hide.
