Glasgow city centre street locked down by cops after man 'attacked'

Police have locked down a major street in Glasgow city centre this afternoon after a man was allegedly assaulted. Officers received a report of a man having been attacked on Union Street at around 11.30am.Emergency services raced to the scene and the street, located between Gordon Street and Argyle Street, has been closed to traffic and pedestrians.A photo taken at the scene shows a cordon erected on the busy street, with a police van parked at the entrance and an officer standing guard.It is expected to be shut 'for some time' and the public are being advised to avoid the area.Police Scotland have confirmed that officers are still on site and an investigation is underway.A spokesperson said: "Officers are attending reports of a man having been assaulted on Union Street."They received the report at 11.30am."Police are on scene and enquiries are ongoing."A spokesperson for Greater Glasgow Police added: "Union St between Gordon St and Argyle St is closed to traffic and pedestrians due to a police incident."Diversions are in place."Please take direction of officers at the scene and avoid the area as access will be restricted for some time."Updates will be provided when available."
