‘Gladiator 2,’ ‘Dune 2,’ ‘Blitz’ Among Camerimage’s 2024 Main Competition Lineup

Carolyn Giardina The EnergaCamerimage international cinematography film festival has revealed the final three contenders in its main competition.

This includes a pair of high-profile sequels: “Dune Part 2,” lensed by Greig Fraser, who won the cinematography Academy Award for Part 1 of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s scifi novel; and “Gladiator II,” shot by John Mathieson, who earned an Oscar nom for Ridley Scott’s 2000’s original “Gladiator.” The final nominee is Steve McQueen’s WWII drama “Blitz,” lensed by Yorick Le Saux, which is also Camerimage‘s opening night film.

The previouslycannounced contenders for the main competition’s Golden Frog include “Conclave,” “The Brutalist,” “Emilia Pérez,” “The Fire Inside,” “Small Things Like These” and “Cabrini.” Rounding out the 12 nominees in the main competition are Italy’s submission for best international feature, “Vermiglio;” Denmark’s category entry, “The Girl With the Needle”; and Austria’s category contender “The Devil’s Bath.” Cate Blanchett was named jury chair.

A year ago, director/writer/cinematographer Warwick Thornton’s “The New Boy,” which starred Blanchett, won the Golden Frog. Pablo Larraín’s “El Conde,” lensed by Ed Lachman, collected the Silver Frog, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things,” lensed by Robbie Ryan, claimed the Bronze Frog.
