Furious Killie boss Derek McInnes blasted whistler Matt MacDermid over his “outrageous” failure to send off Saints sinner Shaun Rooney. The Rugby Park gaffer was left fuming at half-time as his team trudged down the tunnel trailing 2-1 and down to 10-men after defender Joe Wright allowed himself to get embroiled with the Paisley side’s chief wind-up merchant.
VAR stepped as Wright was handed the Ayrshire outfit’s fourth red card of the season already for an off-the-ball bust-up with Rooney.
But McInnes was stunned when both MacDermid and telly official Andrew Dallas failed to take action after the Paisley wing-back appeared to kick-out at grounded Killie skipper Kyle Vassell midway through the first half.Kilmarnock put on a brave show of resilience after the break, snatching a deserved point as Jonah Ayunga’s OG put the visitors level at the SMISA stadium.
But McInnes - who had seen his side fall behind when Saints netted either side of Marley Watkins’ equaliser with goals from Toyosi Olusanya and Mark O’Hara - was left raging at the failure to send off Rooney. He said: “We finished the first half strongly but there’s moment of madness when Joe gets himself sent off.
