A frustrated dad has told of how he was 'treated like an animal' as he queued for 24 hours to renew his diabetic son's passport.

Phil Corns, 41, had made the journey from his home to the passport office at 8pm on May 31 after completing a 12-hour shift.

Phil was due to work another 12-hour shift after having been awake for at least 36 hours, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports. Phil and his wife Jayne, 46, had previously travelled from their home in Newcastle-under-Lyme twice before only to leave Liverpool Passport Office empty-handed.

The couple booked a family getaway to Egypt with their two sons Archer, nine, and Billy, seven. It was their first family trip since Billy was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.Both parents lamented the passport office for its “lack of compassion” and “incompetence”.Phil said: “There is no interest, no compassion, no human element from the staff.
