A woman who bought a £42,000 BMW in her mum's name without telling her has been spared jail. Heidi Carruthers convinced a friend to masquerade as her mother before heading to a dealership.
The 35-year-old then took out a finance agreement on a car using her mother's details without the victim's knowledge. Carruthers' mother only became of the agreement after she fell into arrears with repayments and was credit blacklisted, StokeonTrent Live reports.
Carruthers - who has 34 previous convictions for 79 offences - has been sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, after a judge at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard she has turned her life around following the birth of her daughter. She was assisted by a woman who claimed to be the defendant's mum. Mr Gray said: "The finance was in the sum of £42,000. In due course, payments were not made and the defendant's mother became aware of the arrangement taken out in her name.
