There will be over 450 athletes competing for England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in 250 events in more than 15 different sports in Birmingham over the coming weeks.

The opening ceremony took place on Thursday at the newly renovated Alexander Stadium in the north of the city and saw athletes from over 72 nations and territories come together for the event which takes place every four years.

The last time the event took place in the UK was in Glasgow in 2014 and many will fondly remember the games which took place in Manchester in 2002, for which there was a lasting legacy with the Etihad Stadium now standing as a permanent reminder of the games.
