There were hopes they would perform at the Eurovision Song Contest final and ABBA fans got their wish - sort of. The 68th edition of the world's biggest music competition on Saturday night (May 11) marked 50 years since the Swedish group won the Contest themselves.

Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad formed in Stockholm in 1972. Two years later and the group, is an acronym of the first letters of their first names arranged as a palindrome, were Sweden's first winner of Eurovision with their hit song, Waterloo.

And the rest, as they say, is history as they went on to become one of the most popular and successful musical groups of all time and are one of the best-selling music acts in the history of popular music. However, Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Frida didn't succumb to people's wishes and instead, the UK got another moment in the spotlight with Eurovision crossing live to London and to Abba Voyage, a virtual concert residency set in a purpose-built arena for the group.
