Edinburgh OAP charged with alleged sexual assault of teen boy in Meadows appears in court

A pensioner accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy in a popular Scots park has appeared in court. Police were called after a 14-year-old boy was allegedly attacked in the public toilets of The Meadows in the capital on Good Friday, April 15.

James Tait, 88, of Edinburgh, made no plea when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, June 1, in private.He is charged with crimes under the sexual offences act.The case was committed for further examination.Tait was released on bail and his next appearance in court is to be confirmed.A public appeal was launched after the incident on April 15 and police confirmed an arrest had been made at the start of May.A Police Scotland spokesperson previously said: "An 88-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault in the Meadows, Edinburgh on Friday, 15 April, 2022."
