EastEnders icon Cindy Beale made her dramatic return to the show last week in shocking scenes after 25 years away. While she is not back on the square just yet, when she does arrive alongside Ian Beale, there is going to be fireworks. The writers at the soap have huge things planned for Cindy's return, including her reunion with Kathy Beale.

Cindy, played by Michelle Collins, 61, and her former mother-in-law Kathy, played by Gillian Taylforth, 67, are set for some huge fights in the coming months.

Back in the day, Cindy cheated on Kathy's son Ian with David Wickes, and that didn't go down well with the Beale family. As they are about to come face to face for the first time in 26 years, EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw has said that moment is "absolute dynamite." Chris told the Mail: "Cindy's a little softer through everything that has gone on, after 25 years of living a different identity and living a lie to her other family – and what comes quite apparent later in the year when she returns to Walford is it doesn't take long before we see flashes of the old Cindy Beale. "She still has it, there's some absolute dynamite between Cindy and Kathy." He added: "It doesn't take long and it's still the same Cindy at the core, she's just been on one hell of a journey since we last saw her." Last week Cindy's return was confirmed, in scenes that were filmed away from the square. They showed Cindy with Ian Beale and his son Peter as she was told her witness protection was over.

She had been in witness protection for 25 years and living under the name of Rose Knight. In another twist, it turns out that she is the long-lost wife of new Queen Vic landlord George Knight.
