East Kilbride student awarded Amazon engineering bursary to pursue her tech industry dream

An exceptional student from East Kilbride with high ambitions of becoming a leader in the tech industry has been named as one of this year's recipients of the national Amazon Future Engineer Bursary.Alia Brooks, who started her mechatronics degree at the University of Glasgow last month, is one of 30 women in the UK to receive the funding.

The Amazon Future Engineer Bursary provides a financial support package of up to £20,000 to students from low-income households to help address the underrepresentation of women studying computer science and engineering at UK universities.

Alia, 18, was awarded the £15,000 bursary by demonstrating a passion for innovation and driving change through technology. The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
