Driver spared jail for leaving mum of tragic Scots boxer with catastrophic injuries

A driver who caused catastrophic injuries to the mother of tragic boxer Mike Towell by squashing her between cars has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.Melissa White was told to perform 100 hours unpaid work and was banned from driving for 14 months after she admitted causing horrific injuries to Tracey Towell.

The care worker sustained serious head and chest injuries after being knocked down. She spent around ten months in hospital and has been left needing ongoing care.Melissa White, 36, of Dundee, admitted causing the crash which left Mrs Towell needing emergency surgery and weeks in intensive care.Solicitor John Boyle, defending, told Dundee Sheriff Court: "This was an incident which, unfortunately, led to catastrophic injuries, and she is devastated by the fact she was responsible for those injuries."It was late at night, dark, and the complainer had come from between parked cars.

It is her position that she simply did not see the complainer. The complainer was essentially squashed between a parked vehicle and Ms White's vehicle."Sheriff John Rafferty told White: "You caused really very serious injuries to the pedestrian and that is something I have to take into account.
