Driver dies after car leaves road and catches fire as Scots cops to be probed over crash

A driver has died after a car left a Scots road and caught fire. Officers from Police Scotland were called to the B851 road near Inverness at around 11.20am on Wednesday, October 2 after reports of a vehicle on fire.The car left the road and fell down a nearby ditch.

Scottish Fire and Rescue sent three appliances to the scene as smoke was spotted billowing out from the roadside.Cops confirmed the driver of the vehicle died after the car "left the carriageway" near Daviot village south of Inverness.

The road was closed for around 30 hours.A picture taken from the scene shows forensic officers in white suits scouring the roadside, with the burnt out car spotted lying in an embankment.Police Scotland has also confirmed it has referred itself to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.
